Nominations are now sought for this year’s Army Sports Awards, which will take place on Thu 14 Nov at RMAS. It is important that we continue to recognise the achievements of Army athletes. The citations required for ASA24 are no different to any piece of DW staff work and require thought and preparation to ensure that any submission is well structured, accurate and competitive. The criteria for the awards is detailed further below.

CRITERIA FOR NOMINATIONS
General
- Citations are to cover the period 1 Sep 23 to 31 Aug 24. Personnel only qualify for consideration if they are serving members of the Army, both regular and reserve and meet the eligibility rules as laid down in JSP 660 and AGAI Vol 1 Chap 5. The exception is the Lifetime Achievement Award which can be awarded to a retired serviceman or woman, or a civilian, who has made a major impact and contribution to sport in the Army.
- The sporting activity must be in one or more of the recognised approved sports, in accordance with JSP 660.
Sportsman, Sportswoman
- Primary criteria – An individual’s performance in a sport or sports.
- Secondary criteria – An individual’s wider contribution to their sport or sports.
Sports Official
- Primary criteria – An individual’s achievements as an official in their sport of sports.
- Secondary criteria – An individual’s wider contribution to their sport or sports.
Rising Star Award
- An individual must be new to the sport in the Army, and has made a significant impact as a participant, coach or official over the period 1 Sep 23 to 31 Aug 24.
Sport Team Award
- Only individual teams qualify – not sports associations or sub disciplines of associations.
- Teams to be single sex unless NGBs recognise mixed sex participation within the same team.
- Outstanding success over the period 1 Sep 23 to 31 Aug 24
- The success of the overall team is the primary factor, not the individual performances within the team.
Lifetime Achievement Award
- Can be a serving or a retired serviceman or woman or a civilian, whose has made a major impact and contribution to sport in the Army.
- To recognise an individual’s prolonged outstanding contribution to sport in the Army, either as a competitor, official, coach, organiser or administrator.
- Not restricted to the support of one sport.
