Army Equitation At The Royal Tournament

The Royal Tournament (Army Championships) was held at the Defence Animal Training Regiment, Melton Mowbray from 20-24th June. A record-breaking 160+ personnel from all three services and the emergency services competed on personal horses or military horses and jumped in classes from 70 cm up to 1.20 m classes.

This week-long showjumping competition also hosted the Eventing leg of the Loriners Tri-Services Competition. The format of this competition consisted of a dressage test (set movements that are marked to demonstrate the harmony between horse and rider), followed by a jumping test. This jumping test consisted of show jumps followed by a series of solid x-country jumps with a timed portion. We are pleased to report that the Army Team (with 2 team horses being military working horses!) defended this leg of the Loriners competition successfully by a large margin of 20 penalties, followed by the RAF and Royal Navy teams. The Army Team consisted of CoH Glass (HCav) on MWH Revenge, Bdr Brasher (KTRHA) on MWH Long Run, LBdr Hails (RA) on her own Furzileas Hidden Gem and Gnr Mitchell (KTRHA) on her own Micron Joy.

The overall champions of the competition which are determined by the accumulation of points in their respective sections over the week:

Junior Champion – WO2 McGrath (Household Cavalry, DATR)

Intermediate Champion – Bdr Brasher (Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery)

Senior Champion – AB McFadden (Royal Navy)
